Omani transport minister, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi has announced setting up a national railway company to develop a national railway network in the sultanate, Times of Oman has reported. The company will be fully owned by the government and would supervise the planning, design, tendering, construction of the projects relating to the railway and trains. It would also invest in transport of goods and passengers and all works associated with the project. The ministry also plans to establish a railway department to formulate the policies, regulations and legislation and monitor quality and safety regulations for execution of the projects, Al Futaisi said.
